I simposi Shallow Tethys hanno per oggetto ogni aspetto - paleobiogeografico, oceanografico, climatologico, biogeografico, geologico - della Tetide, quel mare, originariamente poco profondo, che si andò formando in seguito all'allontanamento della zolla continentale africana da quella europea. I contributi del simposio di Albrechtsberg, che mostrano l'interdisciplinarietà dell'approccio a questo argomento, sono suddivisi in sette sezioni: Tetide in generale, Permiano, Permotriassico, Triassico, Cretaceo, Terziario, modelli matematici e paleontologia.
